San Jose de Maipo to the Embalse El Yeso A Sunday Excursion! A journey in the Andes Mountains. 50 kms South from Santiago. The volcano, 5800m above the sea, is covered by snow all year round. The crater has a stadium shape. For the story.. Santiago is quite cool in the morning but in the afternoon it is very hot. As I went to the excursion, I thought I will survive the cold. But not at San Jose, I had to buy a jumper. It turned out that on the market place, some locals were selling jumpers made of Alpaga wool! I just grabbed this chance to buy one colouful jersey, that helped a lot. Very warm and comfi! I only knew that I should take my swimsuit! Amazing landscape! Multicoloured landscape to Cajon del Maipo The way to the thermal bad was bumpy and not asphalted. The landscape was so fascinating - the colours and the also the lava covered by el Yeso (gipsum - white stuff). The last eruption is dated back 1500. The thermal bad are natural, water comes from the region. Natural water temperatures go from 25 to 70 degrees! Snack --- Snack ---! Carmener wine that is not produced any longer in France, there was a plague and the vineyards in France did not survive. However a French guy imported this wine variety in Chile and it survived here. El embase del Yeso At 2500 m above the seal level, this main source of drinking water supply for the metropolitan region has a turquoise or deep blue colour, depending on the sun rays! The other source of drinking water is behind this mountain where the access is restricted as it belongs to a Chilean drinking water company. It was only a 30 minutes stop ... take a picture and leave!
