Happy Thanksgiving! I heard that all day long at school ... Every time I had to explain the students that Thanksgiving is not part of our traditions but an American one! They were so surprised as they put Western culture and traditions in the same pot ....
This evening we went with for friends Somayeh (US), Rafa (Spaniard), Mart (Brit) to this Australian restaurant. For any American, Thanksgiving is a big event even bigger than Christmas. We decide to treat ourselves with a nice dinner. It was very delicious - a menu for 25€ - (188 Yuan) - 5 dishes: soup, mussel, fish or steak including bar salad , juices and pasta. We had a nice time and the Western food was delicious... ! Happy Thanksgiving!

Starting a new life in China! What a challenge! Two months have gone now and it is still not easy to integrate. I am struggling with my new life, sleepless nights do not make it easier. In one way I am overburden (the Chinese mentality, behaviour, noise) and in the other way I am mentally not challenged enough. This might be the second time where I really have hard time in a new place. The first one was in ex East Germany where I studied my master, it was in a tiny village called Bernburg! It was a challenge! Find a routine at work, with friends and in general… takes a lot of time to have things settled. The society is not opened, at the first sight people do have interest but that is the end of it! People are inefficient busy. At work, there is not collaboration whatsoever! No support that way! I found some socialising time outside the school! I shared good moments when socialising with my “foreign” friends, what we mostly do is trying local food that is based on fish, noodles and of course bones with meat! What keeps me maintaining a balance is the gym: I enjoy going to pilates with ball, yoga and even dance yoga classes. When the air is not heavy polluted, just good to moderate, an app helps me tracking the quality of air in the region, I go jogging. Photography is also my second best activity. I am really into it, I will even take part in contests. I am not sure about the result but it is fun, I have nothing to loose! Wait and See! Volunteering was also a project but committing to teach English was not part of my expectations! I dropped it! The other idea is to learn Chinese but so far nothing happened… here people speak a dialect that is not understandable even when local speak mandarin … the accent is so different from the standard one... In Putian, What to do? visit temples! Visiting one of the major temples gave me some quiet time, away from the chaotic and noisy streets. Finally! Try and try and never give up… Putianese cuisine ... delicious and full of surprises! |
